Lensing Wikipedia is an interface to visually browse through human history as represented in Wikipedia. Wikipedia contains several summary pages of human history, for example 409 BC is a page summarizing important events in 409 B.C. We took the English descriptions from these pages and performed Semantic Role Labelling on the sentences describing events in order to extract the predicates (verbs) in the sentence and the arguments for each predicate. We used locations in the text to provide a latitude and longitude for each predicate. Each predicate is then shown in three different linked views: a geographical view, a temporal view and a view of the relationship between the predicates and various entities in the text. After all of the data was processed we have more than 80,000 predicates that we use in our visualization.
